Trusting God in the Face of Enemies
Scripture Reading
Esther 7:4-6 : Esther finally reveals to the King that she and her people have been marked for “killing, slaughter, and annihilation”, by Haman. Verse six says, “Haman grew pale with fright before the king and queen..”
Haman was trapped, with no place to run and no place to hide. He probably went to the banquet still trembling from his incredibly “bad luck” at having to honor Mordecai, his hated enemy, at the command of the king. But he had no idea what awaited him.
When this descendant of an Amalekite king dared to plot against the children of God, he instantly made himself an enemy of God. Scripture indicates: “A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.” Haman was building one big snare with his mouth and scheming ways.
In just one day and with one divine stroke, God delivered Mordecai, Queen Esther, and the Jews under Persia 's shadow from the jaws of Haman's trap. Then He arranged for the plotter to be trapped in his own plot, for the hunter to be snared in his own net of destruction. Dear one, remember that God is able and willing to turn a plot that is against you into a victory that is for you!
King David echoed this truth when he penned this powerful prayer:
“For my eyes are toward Thee, O GOD, the Lord; In Thee I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless.
“Keep me from the jaws of the trap which they have set for me, And from the snares of those who do iniquity.
“ Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I pass by safely .”
Take courage. You do not have to sink to the level of those who plot or scheme against you—you have an Advocate, a Protector, a Champion who constantly looks out for you. Your enemies have become His enemies. All you have to do is follow hard after God and put your trust in Him!
