Experiencing God's Faithfulness in our Daily Lives
Sunday, 21 March
It is also encouraging to listen to stories about the faithfulness and power of God. How a testimony of some great healing or miraculous intervention by God builds our faith. How exciting to hear of someone's story that God intervened at the right time and God provided for them in some fantastic way.
But while such stories edify us in many ways, this will not bring change to us unless we have a personal encounter with God to experience His faithfulness for ourselves in the nitty-gritty of life.
We cannot learn about God's faithfulness in our lives in the classroom or from reading christian books or from watching a christian DVD. Rather, it is in the hard knocks of life, with all its trouble, the rough and tumble of life experience...that we can prove for ourselves of God's faithfulness. It is when we are put to the test that we can see His Faithfulness works in us.
Abraham discovered this when God put him to a test by asking him to sacrifice his long awaited, promised son and then miraculously intervened at the last moment. What Abraham had to learn that day was that it was not his son that God wanted, but his heart.
This was what Job learned too when, after much questioning from his own heart and many answers from his friends, every issue was settled in just one real encounter with the living God.
Neither these two men learned about God's faithfulness from a book; they had to walk through life and make the promises their own. It is true to us as well. You may be facing some challenges or difficulties at this time. Don't see this as God's abandoning of you, but simply his opportunity for you to discover Him again for yourself in the 'nitty-gritty ' of life and discover that his promises work, not just for others but for you as well.
' we no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves' John 4:42
