Experiencing Peace
28 March
Nations generally negotiate a peace treaty and neighbours also negotiate peace to live harmoniously.
God's peace is different. Jesus did not negotiate peace between God and us; He is our peace. Peace is not an ' atmosphere or a thing' but peace is a person!...the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was Jesus who destroyed the dividing wall of hostility that separated the court of the gentiles from the court of Israel in the temple of Jerusalem. Signs stood at the gate between the two: 'Gentiles keep out on the pain of death'
Through the death of Jesus, He ripped down the wall and made possible for Jews and Gentiles alike to come close to God so that they could know His peace- with Him and with one another.
Peace is the birth right of every believer. God wants us to know and experience His peace which surpasses all human understanding....a peace that abides in face of difficulty, hardship, and even death.
But how do we maintain such a peace? Through trusting in the Lord, and not ourselves; through staying close to Him and depending on His Spirit; through keeping our minds fixed on Him and putting God's word into practice.
The life of Christ was characterised by a calm, unruffled, unflappable spirit. Even when He walked through a mob anxious to kill Him or waited at Gethsemane for His betrayer to arrive. It is this sort of peace, a peace that knows God is with us even in the pressurised times that Jesus promises to each of us today.
' Thou wilt keep in perfect peace, whose mind is set on thee; because he trusteth in thee. Trust in the Lord forever:for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength' Isa 26:3-4
