A few years ago, after visiting my sisters in London, I took the Euro Star back to Paris and it was dark and I could not find my way back to my hotel in Paris from Gare D'Nord. The only thing I had to look for was Opera Garnier to reach my hotel. After walking for more than 45 min, I went back to this spot to find my bearing.
In life, the first step to finding our way to somewhere is always to find out where we are now:or, to put it a different way, the first step to solving a problem is to see the need. The bible tells us of our needs or where we are now....in many different ways, it sees us being hungry, thirsty, weary, blind, lost, etc.
Here in this verse, the bible tells us that we are thirsty..thirsty for reality..and thirsty for Him. The solution for us is not to keep on pressing on regardless, hoping something might turn up , but to turn back to where they had started, with God himself.
Perhaps, you are feeling spiritually thirsty or dry today. Don't keep busily pressing on with life regardless, filling your life with all kinds of busy-ness in the hope it will 'do the trick.' It's time to stop and to hear the invitation of God to come and drink from his well; for his promise is that all who do, will truly find their thirst quenched.
Jesus answered ' Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life' John 4:13-14
