OUR VISION STATEMENT

SSMC Theme for 2012 ' Transformation Through Prayers'

' Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful' Col 4:2

In line with the Theme for Sungai Way Subang Methodist Church in 2012, as a DG, we seek

- to commit at least 30 mins in prayer daily for the church, DG families, Malaysia and the world
- to extend pastoral care to DG members as well as to those who do not belong to any DG
- to equip men and women to be faithful disciples for Jesus Christ and to build up an army of prayer warriors
- to reach out and connect to those in the market place
- to be relevant as the salt and light for the world and enabling DG members to be at the cutting edge for revival in Malaysia by the Power of His Spirit
- to extend Prayer support and care to one another in the DG

We believe it is Not by Might, Nor by Power But By the Spirit of God that we can do All things through Christ Jesus who strengthen us!

Realising Our Dreams at Shiloh

No matter where you are in your life... The life of a dream is no different than the life of a Christian. A dream is born, it grows, it matures, but ultimately it must die, be buried, and return to its creator before it can truly realize its full glory and potential. There is always a time in my life when my dream was in the stages of death, burial, and submission to God. I took great comfort in knowing that when I submit my dream to God, when I truly let it go and return it to my creator, it will bloom forth like a flower in the desert. If you have a dream, but it seems that your dream cannot be fully realized -- if you are frustrated or discouraged and feel that your dream is withering -- You will discover what Jesus said, “unless a corn of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone -- but if it dies and is buried, it will bring forth much fruit.” Give your dream to God. Return your dream to its source. Let it die and be buried in the rich soil of God's fertile field. You will find that by giving your dream to God, it will exceed your wildest dreams. Whatever preconceptions you have about your dream, give them to God. Whatever hopes and ambitions you have for your dream, give them to God. Whatever selfish attachments and aspirations you have for your dream, give them to God. You will discover that your dream cannot flourish by your will or by your efforts. But in the hands of Almighty God, your dream will grow into a mighty and powerful force, greater than you could have ever thought or imagined.

The Need for Character

Scripture Reading
Galatians 5:16-26, Paul counsels us to walk in the Spirit and contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit.

Talk is cheap. True character comes from the heart.

The Broadway musical My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a coarse, low-class girl who is taught to walk and talk like a lady. Her first test comes when she attends a horse race and mingles with the “upper crust” of British society. In both her demeanor and her speech Eliza appears to be a prim and proper lady of refinement and culture. No one is the wiser regarding her true origins - until the race begins. Caught up in the excitement of the race, Eliza's shallow veneer of refinement falls away and she reverts to her old manner of speech and behavior. Her newly learned refinement is only skin deep.

In the King's court it is not enough to have merely a superficial façade of “proper” language and behavior. The protocols and culture of the King must soak and permeate every pore of our bodies. Esther spent an entire year immersed in learning both the body language and the verbal language of the king's court. Unlike Eliza Doolittle, Esther's refinement was not skin deep. It filled her through and through until shebecame the queenly person she was trained to be. Her physical beauty was enhanced by a beauty of character. Esther's “walk” backed up her “talk.”

Paul mirrored this idea when he wrote, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Not even a whiff of corrupt human flesh is acceptable in the King's presence. That is why we can never approach God on our own. The stench of our sinful flesh will bar our entrance. Only the cleansing blood of Jesus and the anointing of His Spirit open the way for us.

Those most welcome in the intimate circles of the King live by the protocols and speak fluently the language of the palace. In other words, they both “walk the walk” and “talk the talk.” Through worship and daily obedience they continually soak in the anointing oil of the Spirit. As a result, their lives give off the fragrant aroma of the fruit of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness” and “self-control.” This is both the character and the language —the walk and the talk—of those who frequent the innermost recesses of the King's house.

God is no respecter of persons but He does play favorites. And His favorites are those who humbly and out of love for Him surrender their own will to take on His character and speak His language.

Do you want to be welcome in the King's palace? Do you want to be one of His favorites? Then cultivate His character. Learn to speak His language. Make them more than skin deep. Let them soak into every fiber of your being!
